Good to know in Zurich
Local rules we take care of.
- Tree permits: In the City of Zurich, larger trees may need a felling permit and a replacement tree. We clarify this before quoting.
- Nesting season: Bird nests are protected. Strong hedge and tree cutting is done between late August and mid-March.
- City subsidy: For green roofs, green façades, unsealing and trees, the City of Zurich may cover 50 % of the cost. The application must be made before work starts.
- Green waste: We take all clippings with us, so you do not have to deal with bins and garden sacks.

What does a gardener cost in Zurich?

Do I need a permit to cut down a tree in Zurich?
Often yes. In the City of Zurich, trees in protected areas need a permit from 80 cm trunk circumference, and the planned city-wide rule is 100 cm, measured 1 m above ground. We measure and clarify this during the free site visit. Details (German)
When can hedges be cut?
Most birds in Switzerland nest from March to the end of July. Strong cutting is best done between late August and mid-March. A light trim in early summer is possible after checking for nests. Hedge guide (German)
